Project Builder

Project Builder ™ provides a rapid mechanism for parallel development of research scope, research team, and funding team from around the world.  The Builder capacity enables ETN to develop new information in complicated areas by efficiently pooling the technical and financial resources from many small contributors.  Projects go through three phases:

  • Scoping. During the scoping phase, project proposals are posted to the web site.  We determine which projects to post based on our sense of where the most critical research gaps lie.  During the scoping phase, we collect comments on the proposed scope of work, and solicit interested parties to carry out or to fund portions of the work.  Input we receive during this stage enables us to refine what research will be done, and to assess the technical and financial capability to carry the project forward.  Depending on the project area, we may issue a couple of interim scope of work versions on the site before it is finalized.
  • Contract Finalization. Once the scope of work has been finalized and we have received sufficient interest from researchers and funders to carry forward, we will finalize the agreements to complete the work.  This will involve choice of analytical teams and finalization agreement with funders.  At this stage, funders will transfer their committed fees to a third party escrow agent to ensure there are no problems paying the analysts once work has been completed.
  • Work Completion. Technical analysis will begin, and the timeline for completion, as well as periodic progress reports, will be posted on the ETN website.  Some of this information may be available only to funders.  Once the analysis has been completed, it will be published on the ETN site, and often by the partnering organizations as well.
